140 plus children attended the annual week long Kelloggs Cúl Camp organised by the Down County Board, in association with Cumann Pheadair Naofa, at Pairc Liam Uí Ír from 15-19 August. Very positive feedback was received about the Cúl Camp, from children and parents alike.
On Tuesday of the camp, the kids and coaches were lucky enough to receive a surprise visit from GAA Legend Tyrone Manager Mickey Harte, as well as Tyrone Senior Footballers Peter Harte. Both men talked about the importance of enjoyment from a young age and encouraged the young people to keep playing. Mickey Harte also highlighted the social role of the GAA and entertained coaches and kids with stories of his days at the helm of Tyrone Football. The young participants also received some invaluable training and playing tips from both Mickey and Peter and finished with a fantastic photo opportunity. Many thanks to Eamonn Fegan for arranging this surprise visit.
Throughout the week, the children aged from 6 to 12, enjoyed the daily coaching sessions from 10 coaches including Warrenpoint own Brendan Rice, Niall McGovern and Ryan McAleenan and had an opportunity to put their skills into practice, with a very exciting tournament organised on the last day of the Cúl Camp. Cumann Pheadair Naofa Cul Camp Organisers Anne McCormack and Liam Howlett expressed gratitude to the Cúl Camp team of coaches and also the many club volunteers whos gave of thir time during the week to help out.
