Friday 27 May saw Saval host Cumann Pheadair Naofa at Nan Sands Park in a must win battle for both sides.

Both sides have recently been hit with injury and player unavailability for selection and with the Point lads being unlucky with losses to the likes of Burren, Longstone and Bryansford by the narrowest of margins, they found themselves with all eyes on 2 points from Friday’s match.

Ross McGarry opened the scoring for the Warrenpoint side with a quick turn of his man to pop over the opening score of the game. McGarrys scoring continued with two more scores one from play and one from a free.

The Saval side came back into the game with some great performances from Niall Madine who at times cut through the ‘Point men’s defence and with Cunningham in defence keeping the ‘Point men at bay.

Ruairi Cowan put Cumann Pheadair Naofa ahead with a cracking and  unstoppable goal at the stroke of 20 minutes.

At Half Time the score was 2-9 to 0-5 to the Blues  who were notably looking the hungrier and the score reflected this.

The second half got underway with scores from Saval and a lapse in concentration allowed the men in green to pick up a great goal on 45 minutes.

But the Warrenpoint men were able to hold on to secure a dominant victory against the Saval men.

The full time score was 2-13 to 1-9 and saw the Point side walk away with 2 vital and well deserved points
