The club’s U12 panel continued their good run of form with a hard fought victory over Mayobridge.
In the opening half it was Mayobridge who played the better football and raced in to an early lead scoring the first 2 points. The point cut the deficit with a point from Jack Cole but the Bridge scored the first of their 2 goals to open a 4 point lead. The young blues dug in and came back into the game when a long range effort from Jack Cole found the net and points from Niall Rice and Seamus McNulty put the blues into a one point lead. Mayobridge equalised to put the sides level at half time 1-3 each.
In the second half it was the blues who started the stronger. James Murphy began to dominate midfield with Shogy McNulty and with link up play with Jack Cole and Niall Rice starting to work much better, a great move saw Tiarnan McGivern finding himself in front of goal to slot home Warrenpoint’s second goal. Further points from Nial Rice, Shogy and Callan Morgan gave the Point boys a slight cushion. The bridge did put severe pressure on the defence but Caolan Freer, Jamie Powell, James Sweeney and Darragh Austin defended excellently and with Ben Elmore playing another superb game in goal it wasn’t until the last minute that the Bridge boys got a goal to leave the final score 2-7 to 2-3 to Cumman Pheadair Naofa.
