Cumann Pheadair Naofa Footballers welcomed Mayobridge to Pairc Liam Ui Ir on Friday, a match that saw the Point men chasing their first win of the season follow a few narrow defeats to the likes of Burren and Clonduff. It also saw Mayobridge as favourites following 4 wins out of 7. Both teams equally wanted the win and the match played out as one of the fiercely contest matches of the season so far.
The bridge men were slow to start with the Point men putting the first score on the board with a Ross McGarry point, the Bridge men then lead by point with two scores one from play and one form a free. The Seasiders then rocked in front with a thumping goal from Ruairi Cowan to lead by a point. The Point mens hunger for victory was the difference at half time with them going into the break 2 points up.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Mayobridge side rack up the points to edge in front by one point but their lead was short lived when a determined John Boyle stormed through the Bridge midfield then laying a quick one-two pass off to Ruari Cowan and rifling a unstoppable shot into the Mayobridge net to send the Point men 1 point into the lead.
Ross McGarry then put the point men three points clear with one point from play and another from a free. Mayobridge battled hard to stay in the game but Ross McGarry sealed Victory for the Blues with a quick thinking goal chance which landed firmly in the Bridge net.
The match finished Cumann Pheadair Naofa 3-7 vs Mayobridge 0-13.
