It was tough conditions for any team to play in, rain, sleet and a gale force wind but the under 21s of Cumann Pheadair Naofa and Mayobridge braved the elements to fight for their place in the Final against Clonduff next Sunday.
Cumann Pheadair Naofa got off to a bad start with Mayobridge pulling ahead by 5 points, most of which came from frees. The elements worked against the point lads with handling errors causing turnovers in Mayobridge’s favour.
Donagh McAleenan converted a free from play to have the point going in 5 points down at half time 0-6 to 0-1. A resurgence for the point lads saw them pull the game back into their sights with Donagh McAleenan popping over anything that came his way. But ultimately the Mayobridge lads were able to hold on and clinch the win, 0-6 to 0-8.
The point lads were very unlucky in the end not to push on for the win but this has been a season that the lads should be extremely proud of leading from the front in each game and with the under 21 shield up for grabs next Sunday they still have a great chance for success this year.
