Cumann Pheadair Naofa Secretary, Eoin Magennis in his last report after five years as club secretary, highlighted the successes on the field of play during the past year and the achievements beyond the field. He stated that in the 2014 season the Senior Football Team won the County Intermediate Football Championship, progressing through and winning Ulster Intermediate Championship, coupled with a County U-21 football title secured in the Club’s Roll of Honour. Beyond the games, he also stated “far from the field, but due in large part to the breadth of activity there and elsewhere in the Club, Cumann Pheadair Naofa had its Club Maith Platinum status reaffirmed”
Posing a challenge to Club members Eoin stated that “there is an enormous amount of work which the Club volunteers do across five codes, various cultural aspects, social initiative, community outreach and health and wellbeing.” However, he advised that “this level of activity is necessary for a Club in an urban area because of the competing demands which the children and their parents want to see provided by a GAA Club. But it remains a challenge both to finance and to house it. Encouraging and even building on this participation in games at all ages for boys and girls remain a key part of the future development of the Club and its facilities”.
As Eoin prepares to leave the stage as Club Secretary of Cumann Pheadair Naofa, he expresses confidence in the future of the Club “there have been a lot of highlights, particularly the Minor, U-21 and Intermediate Football Championships wins in recent years. With the current crop of players and the access to some top coaches and managers within the club, talk of a County title, is no longer idle dreaming, but something that with more development in both skill and strength, can be achieved. In other games, notably hurling and ladies football, there are also great strides being made and the club will have some good days here too in the not too distant future. The only ceiling now will be one imposed by any lack of preparation”.
In his concluding remarks, Eoin stated “this is my last report after five years as Runaí in Cumann Pheadair Naofa – a position I have both been proud to hold and enjoyed doing”.
