The fourth annual 10k/5k Run on the Bay, which was held on Sunday morning 22 May 2016, was a great occasion with over 140 runners running the scenic route around the Warrenpoint area in pleasant weather conditions. Runners registered from 8am that morning and there was a great buzz about the Clubrooms with everyone soaking up the atmosphere before taking to the amazing starting point at the bottom of the pier.
When runners arrived to the starting line they were entertained by organiser Fergie Bradley who ensured runners were clear of the route and well stretched before taking part.
Leroy Brady put in a strong performance to win the Men’s 10km Run for the third successive year with David Grifinn and David Hicks following him home in second and third place respectively. Aisling Boylan was the winner of the Ladies 10km Race, with Patricia Brown in second place for the second year in a row and Anne Havern taking third place.
Brendan Heaney won the Male 5K race and was followed home by John McCafferey and Mark McKeown in second and third place respectively. Sarah Jane Beattie won the female 5K race and was followed home by Teresa Parr and Rosemary Long respectively.
First club members home were Ryan Haughey who came flying home in the 5K and senior footballer Johnny Murchan who was fastest home in the 10k.
Following the race the club Vice Chairman Gerry Gray Congratulated the winners and paid a special tribute to the organising committee and the many club volunteers who assisted with the event. Congratulations to all the participants. A full list of results are available on the club website www.warrenpointgaa.com
