St Stephen’s Day Fancy Dress Hurling match

The mucky & wet conditions didn’t dampen the jovial and festive spirits of those who braved the hangovers and over indulgences of yesterday to come out and enjoy the annual St Stephens Day Fancy dress hurling event this morning. With all money raised going back into funding juvenile hurling, it was the game itself that was the winner today.

This is the second year that the event has been opened up to some of the minors and camoges. The event itself sparked a bit of interest with two of our local PSNI officers coming down to see what it was all about and witness the craziness of seeing Inspector Gadget (Marty Patterson) giving chase to Bananaman (Damien McConville).

The crowd who turned out to watch were well entertained and saw many characters that would look out of place on a hurling field as a penguin (Chris Rooney), Deadpool (Oggie Murphy), Wonder Woman (Mitch Murphy) & Santa’s Elf (Joey Beggs) among the many superheroes, cartoons & movie characters who turned out.

One of the moments of the day would have to be David Cameron (Eugene McConville) been giving his marching orders by Referee Rory McIntyre for confusing Hurling for Rugby.

Hurling Chairman Damien McConville at the end of the event gave thanks to those who showed up and explained how last year’s money helped to provide fundamental packs and essential basic equipment for our underage players and that this year it will once again be the underage players of Cumann Pheadaír Naofa & the local primary schools who’ll benefit from today’s event. Congratulations to everyone involved.
