Clonduff 3-13 V Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 2-13

A disappointing result in their opening league fixture Cumann Pheadaír Naofa never got out of second gear until the last 10mins of the second half. Conceding two soft goals inside the opening five minutes meant they were chasing the Yella’s to stay in touch, as the home side took full advantage of a strong first half wind on a bitterly cold night. Vice Captains Oisin Kelly & Mark Rafferty had solid games in the middle third of the field, whilst John O’Kane finished the night with nine points. Tiernan Murphy scored the blues opening goal five minutes before the break as the game reached the half way stage 2-8 to 1-6.

It was déjà vu at the start of the second half for Warrenpoint as disaster loomed, a third goal inside the opening minute of the second half saw Clonduff go on to open up a nine-point lead as they looked to be cruising to a comfortable win. Slowly the blues began to claw back a few points through Allie Higgins, John O’Kane and Oisin Kelly. With seven minutes to play saw the introduction of Tiernan Kelly and the young debutant had the sliotar in the back of the net within 30 seconds of taking to the field. Three more O’Kane points left a solitary goal between the sides, but time had run out for the blues as they’d left it too late to get a result.

Scorers: J O’Kane 0-9, T Murphy 1-0, T Kelly 1-0, A Higgins 0-2, O Kelly 0-1, T Magill 0-1
